Is it true that high risk HPV does not live on skin aside for the opening of the penis or inside the vulva? -

I heard that supposedly high risk strains live only near or in the mucosal gland of the penis or inside the vulva, but not on the outside, where the skin is dry. Supposedly only low risk hpv can survive on the exterior skin. Is this true. I want to know if it s possible for me to have any high risk hpv on the shaft of my penis.

HPV is a virus. Viruses are most easily transmitted across mucous membranes. The glans of the penis and the mucosal lining of the vulva (vagina and inner labia) are considered mucous membranes, as is the lining of the mouth, nose and anus. Viruses can be transmitted via saliva, blood, semen, stool and vaginal secretions. Generally sweat doesn t permit viral transmission. If you ve had unprotected sex, then it s entirely possible to be infected with HPV. That includes unprotected oral sex as well. Generally, you would not be infected on the shaft of the penis, so long as the skin is intact. However it s possible to get infected via mico-tears or scratches in the skin.
