Yeah.... I think the drug Viagra induces a chemical named... Cyclic GMP... it is not a hormone. When sexual stimulation and arousal occur, they cause a chemical called cyclic GMP to be produced. Cyclic GMP creates erections by causing the arteries of the penis to expand and the veins to narrow. In other words, it creates a quot;traffic jamquot; of blood in the penis with blood entering faster than it leaves. That s what causes the penis to get hard. The brain sends a signal down a nerve fiber... which ends in a nerve cell (nonadrenergic-noncholinergic) which creates nitric oxide. That chemical stimulates an enzyme called guanylate cyclase in nearby cells and the enzyme starts to produce cyclic GMP. .. cGMP tells smooth muscles that line an artery to relax. When they relax, blood flow to the penis increases. As long as brain is sending signals to produce nitric oxide the erection should remain.
